If you have been reading these fish profiles long enough, you know that I sometimes complain about how nippy tetras can be. However, I will never complain about the Black Neon. They are one of the best tetras to keep because of their personalities and colors and are usually available at fish stores everywhere. Like most tetras, they are schoolers so you should purchase a minimum of 8..more is better. They look very impresive in large groups. You can keep a group in a 20 gallon/ 80 liter long. They will swim the length of such a tank en masse, putting on a fantastic display. They can be kkept with other small characins as well as most other common small fish like rasboras, smaller gouramis, corys, plecos and dwarf cichlids.
Origin: Brazil
Size: 3- 3.5cm/ about 1.5 inches
Temperature: 20-27°C. / 70-82°F
Diet: Any small food including dry flakes
Habitat: They are not picky, but they look best in a dimly lit tank with a dark substrate and some plants.
Breeding: Egg scatterers with no parental care.
